Alex Urquhart-Taylor

Originally from the northwest Highlands, I have made Perth my home for the past 7 years.

Since 2009, I have been the director of a website design, hosting and online marketing business. Over this time, we have worked with hundreds of SMEs from every sector. This work has given me a deep insight into the challenges facing Scottish businesses today.

I have a deep love for the arts. Since I was a child, I have been heavily involved in the Scottish traditional music scene, learning to play the Highland pipes, border pipes and whistle. I have performed professionally for many years with both my own band and other performers.

More recently, I have joined the board of Fèis Rois. Fèis Rois is one of Scotland’s leading traditional arts and Gaelic language organisations, providing opportunities to thousands of children across Scotland to learn music, arts and the Gaelic language.

I have a keen interest in renewable energy and am a board member of the Dundee Renewable Energy Society, a community benefit society developing a 2MW solar meadow in Invergowrie.

I believe there are unique opportunities in Perth for business, the council and the people of Perth to work together on renewable and low carbon projects. I hope to see Perth not only be one of the first cities in Scotland to be truly sustainable, but to do so in a way that benefits both the businesses and the people of Perth.
